Santa Catalina Church and Santa Catalina’s Arch or Iglesia de Santa Catalina y Arco de Santa Catalina is maybe the most iconic place in Antigua Guatemala. Originally it was the connection between the a school and a the convent, to comply with cloistering regulations.
The clock in the arch is a lot newer, was probably build when it was reconstructed in 1850.
The area around the hotel is very nice, it houses some hotels and restaurants, like Frida’s, fine Mexican food restaurant, as well as a small market called Nim Pot, and some other stores. The street is usually closed to vehicular traffic on weekends.
It is located two blocks from Central Park on 5th Avenue North, on the way to Church and Convent of La Merced.
